Application
To determine the ERBP of hydraulic brake fluid according to ANNEX A of IS 8564 & averaging results.
Summary of test method
60 ml of brake fluid is boiled under specified equilibrium conditions (reflux) at atmospheric pressure in 100 ml flask. The average temperature of the boiling fluid at the end of the reflux period, corrected for variation s in barometric pressure if necessary, is the ERBP.
Details of apparatus
Consists of following parts and accessories.
(1) Flask : 100 ml round-bottom short-neck, heat resistant glass flask with 19/38 standard taper, female ground-glass joint and side-entering tube with outside diameter of 10 mm for the introduction of the thermometer.
(2) Condenser
- Water-cooled
- Reflux glass-tube type
- Jacket 200 mm in length, bottom end of which have a 19/38 standard taper, drip-tip, male ground glass joint
(3) Boiling stones
Three clean, unused silicon carbide gains (Approx. 2 mm in dia, Grit no. 8)
(4) Thermometer
- ASTM 2C
- Equivalent to IP 62C
- Temp range : -5 to 300 °C x 1 °C
(5) Heat Source
- Heating mantle - 100 ml capacity
